The federal budget for fiscal year 2026–27 will now likely be presented on June 12 instead of June 10 as consultations over the schedule are still incomplete, sources told ProPakistani.
Talking to media persons today, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said several key aspects of the budget have yet to be finalized. He said discussions are ongoing and time is limited. The upcoming month of Muharram is a factor being considered in scheduling matters.
He said a final decision regarding the change in the budget presentation date is expected within the next day or two.
Negotiations between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) have been completed, and an understanding has also been reached between the government and coalition partners on development spending, sources added.
The federal government plans to increase development expenditure in smaller provinces in the upcoming budget. Under the proposed allocation, Balochistan will receive the largest share, followed by Sindh, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will rank third. Punjab is expected to receive the lowest allocation.
